AV digitizing and archiving specialist NOA GmbH is gearing up for participation in the 43rd edition of the FIAT/IFTA World Conference 2019, which takes place in Dubrovnik, Croatia Oct. 22–25.
Under the theme “Champions of Value and Trust. AV Archives in the All-Media World,” organizers say the 2019 event will focus on what “is at stake today at the crossroads of content and rights management, media archiving, storytelling, audiovisual preservation and artificial intelligence.”
Hosted by NOA customer HRT Radio, the 2019 edition is taking place in the Balkan country in Eastern Europe on the Adriatic Sea, a region that connects the “east and west and the old and new,” and where NOA has a large footprint. In addition to Croatian National Radio and Television HRT, other NOA clients in the area include RTV in Slovenia, RTS Belgrade, Bulgarian National Radio BNR, Romanian National Radio SRR as well as MTVA Hungary.
Bruno Burtre, NOA’s director of business development will address the audience alongside Aisha Alzareef, director of broadcast technology and information systems for Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, to discuss the different processes in Archive Asset Management (AAM). The paper, “Coexistence of (Asynchronous) Preservation processes in Archive Asset Management,” will highlight central tasks in industrial digitization and beyond.
The presentation will address the multiplicity of tasks that are necessary in preservation projects, highlighting that not all are synchronous processes, and how their coexistence can lead to efficient orchestration and labor separation. With a main focus on structured cataloguing processes, the presenters will detail how to bridge the annotation gap between digitization and access.
Many archives still struggle with providing access to their legacy content and with developing a long-term digital preservation strategy. Even though challenging enough on its own, mass migration of physical collections to the digital domain is only the first big step; it takes more to build a state of the art media repository. Organizing and describing the sounds and images within the archive is a most vital prerequisite, let alone storage and essence management.
