The TapeLightBarrier module, equipped with a light diode and a light receptor, is mounted directly onto a tape player and linked to the N7000c audio hardware through a CAT cable. As the tape glides by, it induces varied readings within the module. These readings are then decoded by NOARecord, marking specific points along the recording's timeline.

Linked in between video players and ingest station, the VTRi-1 module is in charge of forwarding remote control signals to the players as well as returning ISR events (provided by VTRs) and/or the logged RF trace (grabbed by a special sensor plate) - both indicating transfer errors- back to the recording software FrameLector.
In FrameLector, both transfer quality indicators will be logged to enable the unambiguous assessment of success of the digitization. As ISR events and RF traces are based on actual physical interaction between tape and reading head, this kind of electrical metadata does not produce false positives.
Whereas ISR events are forwarded by VTRs via a designated port, grabbing the RF signal during a running recording requires a more direct intervention into the hardware. With the help of a sensor plate, which is soldered onto specific points on the VTR's boards, the RF signal is grabbed and forwarded to the recording software FrameLector, where a thorough analysis and interpretation of the electrical signal gives hints on problematic transfers.
A broad variety of legacy players are eligible to be equiped with the sensorplate, including players for the most common archival formats including U-Matic, 1-inch C, DV/DVCPro, Betacam SP, and Betacam ST.

Depending on the type of player, remote as well as ISR and/or RF cables are plugged into the VTRi-1 module, which itself is connected to the FrameLector workstation via USB connection.
