NOA, Release Manager
"When it comes to long-term preservation of invaluable archive assets, transferring archive-grade audio CD contents is not a task one leaves to amateurs. NOA has designed and perfected a professional tool for the mass ripping of archive CDs, guaranteeing the highest archiving quality standards."
During operation, CDLector can be set to various, semi-automatic reading modes to achieve the best possible output even of damaged discs.
Archive Mode | Alternate Mode | Burst C2 Mode | Burst Mode |
---|---|---|---|
Reads all sectors up to 64 times and will only move on to read the next sector if it has an exact match between two read results (recommended for archives). |
Begins in Archive Mode, shifts to Burst Mode for uncorrectable errors, annotating changes until the current track ends. Automatically reverts to Archive Mode at the start of the next track. |
Reads in a Burst Mode with decreased sector synchronization attempts until a C2 error is detected. From there on it switches its reading mode to Archive Mode and upon further failure into Burst mode, annotating the read mode changes. The last active mode is kept until the end of the current track, switching back to Archive Mode on the start of the next. |
For when other methods fail. A high-speed single-pass mode (typically 28x) with minimal transfer security. |
At opposite ends of the spectrum lie the fast yet less controlled Burst Mode and the meticulously thorough but comparatively slower Archive Mode.
CDLector maximizes the advantages of these approaches by intelligently blending them and employing smart switching, while meticulously recording each mode change as a time-based marker.
As some of these alternative modes depend on C2 error reporting from CD drives (hardware), NOA diligently tests current market drives to offer suitable recommendations and assurances.
